How many Pokemon games exist?

For the series of games, as big as Pokemon, even answer on such kind of question is not simple. While there is many Pokemon games, only some of them a truly proper games, while other a minor, and not on par with them. And there is games, which is only partially about Pokemon (like SSB). While many of proper games was released in several versions. To really understand situation with them more clearly, its important to look properly at what kind of games exist.

Main Series
Pokemon Red\Blue\Green\Yellow (GB)
Pokemon Gold\Silver\Crystal (GBC)
Pokemon Ruby\Sapphire\Emerald (GBA)
Pokemon Diamond\Pearl\Platinum (DS)
Pokemon Black\White\Black 2\White 2 (DS)
Pokemon X\Y (3DS)
Pokemon Sun\Moon\Ultra Sun\Ultra Moon (3DS)
Pokemon Sword\Shield (Switch)
Pokemon FireRed\LeafGreen (GBA) [First 1 Gen Remake]
Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! \ Let's Go, Eevee! (Switch) [Second 1 Gen Remake]
Pokemon HeartGold\SoulSilver (DS) [2 Gen Remake]
Pokemon Omega Ruby\Alpha Sapphire (3DS) [3 Gen Remake]
Most important type of Pokemon games, is main series RPG games. Its in them new Pokemon, and many other new things, do appear for the first time. And later used in different other games, anime, manga, TCG, and so on. There is 8 main games, and 4 remakes of them. All of which was released in 2-4 versions. This versions separated in 2 types. One of them is released initially, and contains only minor difference (such as different pokemons available to catch). But other is updated versions, which features more significant changes. Only 1-5 and 7 generations of games have updated versions (in 8 there is DLC instead of them).

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Series
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red\Blue Rescue Team (GBA\DS)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time\Darkness\Sky (DS)
Pokemon Fushigi no Danjon: Susume! Honoo no Bouken-dan\Ikuzo! Arashi no Bouken-dan\Mezase! Hikari no Bouken-dan (Wii)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity (3DS)
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (Switch) [Red\Blue Rescue Team Remake]
This series is related to both Pokemon, and Mystery Dungeon. Which is big series of roguelike RPG games. That started in 1993 on SNES (from release of Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon). While this series do have its main line of games (Shiren subseries), most games in it, made with usage of characters from other franchises, and gameplay from MD series (even first game in it is Dragon Quest based). Including Pokemon, FF, DQ, Etrian, Druaga. In PMD subseries, there is 5 main games, and 1 remake. First 3 games in it was also released in 2-3 different versions. And second game even have later updated version (Sky). It also worth to note, that Wii game was not released in the west.

Pokemon Ranger Series
Pokemon Ranger (DS)
Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia (DS)
Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs (DS)
This is series of 3 ARPG games, all for DS. About capturing pokemon with stylus.

Pokemon Rumble Series
Pokemon Rumble (Wii)
Pokemon Rumble Blast (3DS)
Pokemon Scramble U (Wii U)
Pokemon Rumble World (3DS)
[Pokemon Rumble Rush (Mobile)]
Pokemon Rumble is ARPG like series, about battling with toy Pokemon. Theoretically there is 5 games in it, but last one is mobile only (and I don't count them as mains). And World originally was free to play game, but later released on cartridge.

Pokemon TCG Series
Pokemon TCG (GBC)
Pokemon Kaado GB 2: Gureto Roketto Dan Sanjou (GBC)
[Pokemon Kaado Geimu: Asobikata DS (DS)]
There is small series of 2 games based on Pokemon TCG for GBC (second one is Japan only, but there is full translation patch). And in addition to them, there is also small TCG game for DS, which is only meant to teach basics of TCG playing, so its not a proper game. There is also 2 more games like that for PC (Pokemon Play It! 1-2), and Pokemon TCG Online.

Pokemon Pinball Series
Pokemon Pinball (GBC)
Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire (GBA)
Small series with 2 Pinball games.

Pokemon Puzzle Series
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge (GBC)
Pokemon Puzzle League (N64)
This series is related to both Pokemon, and Paneru De Pon series (know in the west as Tetris Attck\Planet Puzzle League), which started from Paneru De Pon (SNES, modified in Tetris Attck for western release) in 1995. It only features 2 games.

Pokemon Trozei Series
Pokemon Trozei (DS)
Pokemon Battle Trozei! (3DS)
Pokemon Shuffle (3DS\Mobile)
This is another puzzle series with Pokemon. Last game in is free to play one.

PokePark Series
PokePark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure (Wii)
PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond (Wii)
Small series for little kids, with only 2 games.

3D Battles
Pokemon Sutajiamu 1 (N64)
Pokemon Sutajiamu 2 (N64)
Pokemon Sutajiamu Kin Gin (N64)
Pokemon Colosseum (GC)
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (GC)
Pokemon Battle Revolution (Wii)
Pokemon Batorio (Arcade)
Pokemon Toretta (Arcade)
Pokemon Gaoure (Arcade)
Pokken Tournament (Wii U\Switch\Arcade)
This 10 games are not really series, but all of them based on 3D Pokemon battles (mostly by command choosing, but Pokken Tournament is actual fighting game). It worth to note that original Pokemon Stadium was not released in the west. So first western Pokemon Stadium is second Japanese Pokemon Stadium. While Colosseum\XD games contain not only battles, but a RPG mode too.

Other games
Hey You, Pikachu! (N64) \ Pokemon Channel (GC) - just as PokePark, games for very little kids.
Pokemon Snap (N64) - game about making photos of pokemon.
Pokemon Dash (DS) - racing like game.
Learn With Pokemon: Typing Adventure (DS) - game for training in keyboard typing.
Pokemon Conquest (DS) - TRPG game, part of Nobunaga's Ambition series.
Detective Pikachu (3DS) - quest game.
Pokemon Quest (Switch\Mobule) - free to play game.

And so how much games I listed already? That would be 54 (without Asobikata DS\Rumble Rush, and counting all versions of the same game as 1). And this is what, I self tend to consider proper pokegames. But... thats far from all. So what else is there?

Mobile games - there is a number of mobile games, based on Pokemon. Including both major (Pokemom Go, Pokemon Masters, Pokemon Duel), and minor titles.
Pokemon Mini\Sega Pico\Advanced Pico Beena games - there is many games released for consoles Pokemon Mini\Sega Pico\Advanced Pico Beena. But all of them is just small mini games level, kind of games, for little kids.
Pokemon eReader Games (GBA) - mini games for GBA eReader.
SSB\Taikou no Tatsujin\Donkey Konga\HarmoKnight - this games features characters or music from Pokemon, but are not Pokemon only games.
Pokemon Kaado Geimu: Asobikata DS (DS)\Pokemon Play It! 1-2 (PC)\Pokemon TCG Online (PC) - this is minor TCG games. Used to teach basics of TCG, or play online (Pokemon TCG Online).
Minor PC Games - there is a number of minor Pokemon games for PC, for little kids.
Pokemon Storage programs - there is also a number of programs used for storage\transfer Pokemons from main games (such as Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire, My Pokemon Ranch, Pokemon Bank).
Pokedex 3D \ Pro (3DS\Mobile) - pokedex programs.
Pokemon Art Academy (3DS) - drawing learning program.
Pokemon Toretta Lab (3DS) - addition to Pokemon Toretta.
PokePaaku Asari Taikai DS (DS) - fishing mini game, which can be download on DS when visiting PokePark.
Pirate\Fan Made games - there is many Pokemon games, which is illegally made and sold, and also fan made ones. But all of them is not official games.

And even that is not all. So as you see, depending on what to count, and not to count as proper Pokemon games, answer on the question about how much of them exits, can get be very different.
