Do you remember why Ash originally decided to travel to Orange Islands, after the end of Indigo League? Yes, its was to take mysterious kind of pokeball, known as GS Ball, from Professor Ivy, to Professor Oak. Since Professor Ivy was not able, to understand, what is is. Of course, Ash did not just take GS Ball, but also decided to practice in Orange League. So he did bring it to Professor Oak, only at the end of Orange Islands. But even Professor Oak was not able to figure out, what GS Ball is. So he did sent Ash to yet another region, Johto. For the sake of giving GS Ball, to pokeball expert, known as Kurt, from Azalea Town. Ash did that, but even Kurt wan not able to quickly find out, what GS ball is. So he promised to contact, after he would be able to figure it out. And since then... GS Ball was never mentioned in anime again! This crated the big mystery, and left many fans to wonder, what was inside of GS ball? While answer on this question never did appeared inside anime, it was given much later in 2008 interview, with the director of Pokemon anime Masamitsu Hidaka. Who did explain, that GS ball meant to contain Celebi, and big arc was planned for that. But later it was decided to use Celebi for forth movie. So this arc was canceled, and GS ball was just left with no use.
